Our clients in McCrae on the Mornington Peninsula were excited to transform their new home build into a functional outdoor space that they could enjoy, including gardening, relaxing in their spa and adding their own artistic flair through sculpture. The landscape construction needed to work with the natural upward sloping landscape, the materials and design chosen to capture our clients desire to create a relaxed and country cottage landscape design. The property faced onto a street and there was a property behind, both neighbours shared the same road access driveway. The first step was to create structure, safety and platform areas out the back using retaining walls. We started from the back and built the retaining walls from the top down. Garden boxes were built around the existing small deck, which allowed our client to plant and create the perfect cottage garden with beautiful flowers. Sir Walter Buffalo grass was laid on the top area, the middle was chosen to be filled with plants and the lower level would be grass free with a vegetable garden and feature clothes line in the centre. On the bottom level, a custom built espalier frame was constructed and stainless steel balustrade wire was used. Sandstone pavers were laid in the grass free area with river pebbles laid around. A small Merbau deck platform and steps were constructed to allow access to each level and Hillview granite was used in the step design which was locally sourced from Dromana. The larger side steps were built in collaboration with Dynes Eco Build. Our greatest challenge would have to be working with the slope, moving materials and especially a spa! An existing structural retaining wall in the back was transformed using twisted Rio mesh to create a climbing wall for the plants over this retaining wall. Up the top level our clients relax and unwind in their spa. Perfect Pool Fencing installed the glass fencing and we did the rest. Out the front our clients wanted to build a space that they could further plant, including grow vegetables. A Corten panel wall was constructed to provide screening. Out the front of the house, the area was cleared and two paths were constructed so that each neighbour could access their driveway from the road. The new landscape design was finished off with a custom designed Corten steel letter box, Western Port Lazer Cutting constructed and installation and design was by Coastal Creations Landscaping. Our clients love their new landscaping and have spent many hours gardening and adding their personal touch! Well done team! Before After
What do you get when you combine the creative flair of a musician/barrister with the passion and creativity of a French chef? You get a beautiful and functional landscape design that combines low-maintenance and natural landscape elements inspired by the rolling sand dunes of St Andrews Beach, with a practical space to grow fresh produce and entertain guests. This rustic and natural landscape design creates an open space that transforms from day to night and from season to season. An artistic and creative flair was introduced with rustic and industrial outdoor sculptures which complemented the homes interior decorating and feel. The creative and practical use of landscape lighting turns the central garden hot house into a night time focal point. Let's not forget the importance of accommodating all people in the family. A custom built cat run and cat enclosure was installed by Coastal Creations Landscaping to ensure that even the furry friends could enjoy the beautiful outdoor space and be close to their owners. Like all landscape design and construction projects, they each come with their unforeseen challenges. The initial process of waste removal and clearing always bears nasty gems hidden from the first glances of an outdoor space. There was much to do at the start to create a fresh slate, including removing wild rocket, old concrete and filling a pond in the back corner. But out with the old and in with the new is what we do! We estimate that over 300 wheelbarrows of Bairnsdale topping were physically brought into the property to create a lush and serene rolling sand dunes feel to the backyard. Overall about 400-450 wheelbarrows moved through to the back yard, which kept our men fit to say the least! Our clients were excited about creating new form and texture to their existing space, and the landscape design was an ever evolving plan created through constant communication with our clients and their landscape designers. Our clients were passionate and hands on about the look and feel of their new backyard landscape design, which ensured that they were completely happy with the final outcome. An extensive irrigation system was installed which was connected to their new bore pump located in their front yard. This ensures that throughout all the seasons and weather, the plants, trees and vegetable gardens are getting exactly as much water as they need. Plants native to the Mornington Peninsula, were chosen to complement the rolling sand dunes including Sheoak, Sea Box, Moonah and Banksia. The flora chosen will grow into beautiful trees, shrubs and coverings, creating a natural and lush feel for our clients in the years to come. The square lawn area was constructed by installing a retaining wall and squared off with steel edging. Quality Matilda Buffalo grass was laid and a custom built bench seat by Coastal Creations Landscaping provides a quiet space to sit and relax. Our clients wanted a landscape design that embraced the local areas natural landscape, was low-maintenance and also provided a space to unwind with a glass of wine at the end of a busy week. Also, if you are a foodie then stay tuned, as our talented French client/chef will be launching intimate gatherings of food preparation and cooking in her home in the near future. We loved turning our clients vision into reality, and are absolutely thrilled with the outcome of this landscaping design and construction project. Our clients are so happy with the end result which is always our main priority. We wish them lots of hours of enjoyment in their new outdoor garden. And thank-you for all of the hard work by the Coastal Creations Landscaping team, you guys are brilliant! Before photos Progress photos After photos We recently completed landscaping for two brand new properties in Bittern on the Mornington Peninsula. Side by side these two properties only had mud and dirt, but were finished with a complete landscape design and construction. Both properties had different owners, one was looking to sell and the other would be a rental. Both owners wanted a low-maintenance garden design with quality concreting in the front and back. Property A. Charcoal colour crete was used to concrete the drive-way and garden beds were constructed. Weed matting was laid and topped with black mulch. Our clients chose to plant their own plants. The front yard was seeded and with all the rain should grow well in no time. This home is now ready to sell!! Property B. Exposed aggregate concreting was laid in this drive-way and a low-maintenance rock garden design was implemented. The retained garden beds were constructed and weed mat was laid, topped with river pebbles to create a low-maintenance garden design for this rental property. Drought tolerant plants were chosen that could survive in the clay soil present in the area. Our client wanted to have native plants in the garden and so we chose a contemporary style of landscaping and included plants that would soften the rock garden and create a visual impact from the street. Electric Pink Cordyline were planted to give the garden a focal point and create an instant sculptural statement to the garden design. These plants are low-maintenance and in time will clump, creating a stylish contrast to the brick work and rock garden. We added this small plant with the commercial name Silver Nugget. This silver cushion bush is very hardy and will grow to a 50x50cm clump. This beauty is great for coastal areas and in time will make a striking contrast to the garden design with its silver foliage and tiny yellow button flowers in spring. With low water requirements these nuggets are perfect! The front garden design was completed with 4 x Lime Tuff from the Lomandra species which are a bright green native grass, have low water needs and will grow to 50cm wide. We also added three red fountain grasses, a native know as Pennisetum setaceum "Rubrum". This beauty has burgundy coloured foliage and will bear pink flower spikes in the summer months creating bold and dramatic colour to the rock garden. Out the back The back of the house will be kept tidy and mud free with pebbles and square pavers. The backyard was laid with exposed aggregate concreting and a wrap around garden bed was constructed with a wood platform landing. This small courtyard landscape design is perfect for entertaining friends, just add a table and bbq to finish it off. Out the back we planted more Lime Tuff grasses and 3 bright green cushion like plants known as "Scleranthus biflorus". Along the fence we also planted some "Everygreen Baby" and "Patersonia- long purple flag" along the fence. The tenants to this house will be very lucky! We want to wish both our clients all the very best on these two homes. We definitely had fun working in the wet, rain and mud!! Our great clients in Bittern who both have busy schedules, the wife a Nurse and husband in the Navy, needed some landscaping help to tidy up their newly built property in Bittern on the Mornington Peninsula. With two very active dogs who like to get up to mischief, the couple wanted a landscape design that was not only very functional but practical as well. When we first started the project, the backyard was a blank canvas, aside from rubbish left over from the build. A patio was first constructed using timber for the posts and frame, and the roof was covered with colour bond sheets. Next concrete was laid. The result of the area was a low-maintenance outdoor space that can be now used for outdoor activities and entertaining. The last stage of the transformation involved clearing out the backyard and laying down fresh grass. We then built a low-maintenance garden bed that wrapped around the border of the fence and filled it soil and topped with river pebbles. Our clients have been delighted with the results. They are choosing to plant their own plants and see how their dogs behave in their new, fresh and clean backyard. All the best guys!! Before Preparation for concreting Concreting and a free standing water tank which was also installed Backyard before transformation Old grass has been removed and a wrap around garden bed constructed. Soil preparation for turf Finished Product!
A clean, tidy and low-maintenance backyard landscape design, perfect for a home with dogs! We recently transformed our clients side yard into a private and low-maintenance personal sanctuary in Mornington. The original vision for the area was to create a space with - Low levels of direct sunlight to safe guard our client against strong sun rays - Low maintenance garden and lawn - Greater privacy as one of the fences was adjacent to a walk-way - A feeling of a personal and private sanctuary, but also large enough to host family and friends The solution to our clients vision was -Removal of the old pergola and replace it with a new, larger pergola -To construct a second pergola large enough to provide shade for a large lounge suite -Laying down synthetic grass which is low maintenance, visually attractive and looks and feels real -To build a wrap around raised garden bed with drought tolerant plants -Insert bamboo screens for added privacy and visual aesthetics -Insert a low-maintenance water feature to enhance the spaces tranquil feel Overall the project went as planned and now our client has a fresh slate to add his personal touch. Our client can't wait to sit on his lounge and gain inspiration for his writing. We love landscaping on the Mornington Peninsula and love creating a special outdoor space for our clients to relax in.
